Domain name trading has been around for the last couple decades, and while most slam-dunk names have long been sold off, there’s still plenty of others that you can get your hands on for relatively cheap and broker as a way to make money online. Before you dive in, however, beware that some experts doubt the long-term viability of this idea for making money online. However, there’s always the change you might just land on a lucrative domain name for a future billion-dollar company. To get you started, here are some tips from GoDaddy, arguably the world’s largest and most famous repository of domain names.
Instagram has reached 400 million users, outranking Twitter, and that number is still growing. There are close to 2 billion people using social media in 2017. How about the fact that 75% of consumers are using social media to help them make their buying decisions? If you’re not currently using Instagram marketing correctly, you’re missing out on real sales and brand exposure.
And if you don’t want to include your product, you don’t have to. Encourage your fans to create their own videos and collect them on your page like GoPro does. Or check out the most-followed brand Nike to see plenty of effective videos. This is a brand that has a really good grasp of what Instagram is all about: inspiring viewers by using powerful visuals that focus on the audience, not the product.
My next self-funded business hit $160,000 in revenue in its first year alone. After that first taste of self-made success, I’ve gone on to sign consulting contracts worth tens of thousands of dollars with startups like LinkedIn and Google, launch profitable online courses, and build a following of hundreds of thousands for this blog and my podcast series.
If you’re looking for inspiration, my friend Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of the website Making Sense of Sense has become the expert on all things affiliate marketing. Michelle earns more than $100,000 per month from her blog and the bulk of her income comes from affiliate sales. Michelle has had so much success with affiliate marketing that she even has her own course called Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.
Create a killer course experience: With your course validated and in the works, you need to figure out how people will take it. Most course creators choose to host their courses from their own websites. This way, they get all the value of bringing customers back to their site on a regular basis. I host my own courses from a subdomain on my own site so I can easily add more. The course experience is incredibly important as well. And after trying most of the solutions, I highly recommend Teachable—an online platform designed specifically for courses.
Running and charging for webinars can be a great way to build a following in your niche, demonstrate that you are an expert in your field, and make a profit. Hosting a webinar can be hard work. They need to first be promoted, provide original and valuable information, and include interactive elements so your audience can ask questions and engage with your topic. However, once you have built up a large blog following, each webinar can be extremely profitable.

The music industry might not be as strong as it was in the 80s, but there are still plenty of ways to make money online as a musician. Sites like SoundBetter let you sell your services as a songwriter, producer, or session musician to thousands of customers a month. While Musicbed, Music Vine, Marmoset, and SongFreedom are perfect for licensing your music to TV shows, movies, and web series.
A site called User Testing will actually pay you a fee to evaluate websites. It typically pays you $10 for each video that you review – which typically takes about 20 minutes. If the work is there, and you are particularly good at it, you could earn up to $30 per hour. That’s a pretty solid pay rate for a work-at-home job. You wouldn’t have to work a whole lot of hours to generate a decent part-time monthly income.
A good bio is your elevator pitch. Try to include the essentials about you and what you do. Use target keywords and action verbs to help people find you. The SE Ranking keyword research tool can help you find the top-performing keywords and phrases. For example, Nathan Chan, the founder of Foundr Magazine, focused on the topic of success, brand and posting informative content for young startup founders and business owners on a regular basis.
28. Subscription – If you think of something valuable (newsletter, online magazine, etc.) that you can consistently offer on a certain basis (weekly, monthly, etc.), you may want to offer a subscription service. This could be a fee charged each time your product is sent out or on a monthly basis. Either way, this has to be something that your customers can only get by subscribing to your website.
Did you know that there are over 2 billion people using social media in 2017? An eye-popping 75% of consumers are using social media to help them make their buying decisions? If you’re not currently using Instagram marketing to promote your brand or business, you’re missing out on real sales. Instagram is quickly becoming the more useful of the social media platforms to create brand awareness, drive traffic and boost sales.
Instagram is an excellent platform on which to connect with various social media influencers. These social media stars have already built up a following of their own, so these posts typically perform exceedingly well. If you’re interested in connecting with an influencer, consider how other brands in a similar industry have gone about it before. Does the influencer post from their own account? Or, do they do a sort of “takeover” on the brand’s account?

If you offer freelance services or have a physical services business, then creating a blog is a must. On your blog you can write about the services you offer and how they will benefit your clients. Importantly you can add a ‘Services’ page, outlining the services you provide, what they include, and any other important information potential clients may need. This is an effective way to promote your services, generate leads, and increase your revenue.
Your competitors can be a great source of inspiration for your own Instagram posts. You should try to research what they are doing, what their daily Instagram activity is like and how they do their posts. For example, check out how eBay posts an image in Instagram and how it has a great short description that reflects the image concept. Sometimes posting an image won’t really mean anything unless you explain how it relates to your product and services. Your image should include a caption that expresses the right message that your are trying to relay to your followers. It’s with the right caption that your visitors will understand the product or services for the image with a hashtag. Big companies would invest serious time researching the impact of hashtags which most small companies would overlook. So it really works to research the core concept from your competitors who are doing really well and try to follow what they do.
Fiverr: Israeli-based Fivver was started in 2010 by Shal Wininger and Micha Kaufam. It's a great resource for selling just about any service online. You can offer gigs as low as $5 but also get paid much more for upgrades and add-ons. There are plenty of providers earning 6 figures on Fiverr so it's definitely a worthwhile cause for generating a healthy income. Just ensure that you provide some serious value.

We use influencer marketing as part of our digital marketing strategy for Instagram, and it’s our favorite platform because we get the most engagement out of it. Our target audience includes fashion oriented people who attend music festivals and enjoy electronic dance music. We engage in influencer marketing in a variety of ways. First, we find popular accounts who meet our criteria for selection, and we engage in a conversation to gauge whether or not it’s a good fit. Often times, we will send one of our products to an influencer for free, in exchange for an honest review that is posted to their Instagram followers. For us, the most important element of an influencer package, aside from cultural fit, is the overall reach of their account. We measure our return on investment based on the number of impressions we receive, how much referral traffic we get, and of course – how many sales come as a result of the campaign.
Not only does this cut the time you spend writing your hashtags and captions, but it can help increase the reach of your posts as well. Plus, since the Instagram algorithm favors posts with specific, relevant hashtags, a great strategy is to create multiple Saved Captions with different hashtag blocks and to switch them up based on what you’re posting.
Instagram can be a relatively passive platform. What I mean by this is that people browse their feeds without much intent - they usually do it to keep up on the latest with their connections or idly do it to pass the time. If you want to drive sales through Instagram, it's important that you engage followers with content that turns them into active viewers, rather than passive scrollers.
Market your course: The beauty of using a course to make money online is that you can continue to sell it for as long as you’d like. Look for niche communities on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Reddit that might benefit from your content. Guest post on relevant blogs and sites. Look for anywhere you might be able to get in front of the right people. With just a few hours a month you can continue to generate sales.
Starting a podcast, like making a YouTube channel or blog, comes down to telling interesting stories and building an engaged audience. I’m probably sounding like a broken record by now, but you need a niche that you’re interested in and there’s already a demand for. Come up with a list of topics you’d like to talk about and then search iTunes charts, Google Trends and other podcast research sites like cast.market to see what’s currently out there and popular.
In the same study, Simply Measured found that posts with at least one hashtag generated an average of 13 percent more engagement while posts with a location tag received an average of 29 percent more engagement. This was confirmed by their 2015 study where they found that posts with hashtags and a location tag received the highest average engagement.
If you’re a fitness buff and have the right combination of charisma and business sense, working as a part-time online personal trainer can be both physically and financially rewarding. Once you build up a reputation and client base for yourself, it could easily turn into a full-time endeavor for you. Check out this interview with several fitness blog owners who are making a living online, from MonetizePros. As well, I'd recommend checking out this resource if you want to take this business idea seriously and get started with a business plan for your personal fitness trainer business today.

Collaborate with a team or a business partner on your logo design by clicking on the “Share” button then choosing either the “People” tab to send an email or “Link” tab to generate a unique link to your design. Make sure to choose the “Can edit” option. People you choose to share your design with can then access and edit your design through their personal Canva accounts.
How many email newsletters are you bombarded with every single day? There’s a reason for that. Marketing to an actively interested group of email subscribers is one of the best ways to make money online. There have even been million-dollar businesses built from simple email newsletters like TheSkimm, or Mister Spoils. Each newsletter targets a specific type of user with interesting, daily content, while also partnering with relevant companies and affiliates to bring in extra money. If this seems daunting, it’s not. Tools like MailChimp, ConvertKit and AWeber make it easier than ever to get started with email marketing. And another great option to consider (with the largest free plan available) is SendPulse, with their ability to send up to 15,000 emails per month to 2,500 subscribers, and then affordable plans starting at under $10/month as you grow from there.
So, I put together a free master course for you to take that spreads out all of the work involved in starting a blog, into a series of action-packed lessons. My free course breaks the entire process of starting a blog down into an incredibly simple 7-day process for going from 0 to publishing (and promoting) your first blog post in just 1 week. I can't recommend it enough.
Don't look for the influencer with the biggest following - instead, look for one that has a genuine connection with their followers and a heavy social influence. Remember that this person will inevitably be an extension of the way your brand represents itself on social media, so choose wisely! Reach out only to the influencers whose values align with yours.
People tend to watch videos to the end that are 15 seconds or less. In this case, GIFs are more attractive than images, and they are shared more than JPEG or PNG formats. So, creating and posting eye-catching GIFs becomes mandatory. Instagram offers a great library of GIF stickers. Adding GIFs on Instagram Stories will help you mark key elements in your story and attract your followers’ attention.
In addition to sharing your personal photos with your friends, Instagram can be a powerful marketing outlet for your business. The social media platform has around 800 million active monthly users, 25 million of which are business accounts. But even with its current popularity, businesses have yet to maximize its potential to engage current customers and attract new ones.
Take surveys. You can earn $50 to $100 per month in cash and products by taking online surveys. Find survey sites by searching for “paid survey sites” online. Sign up for several survey sites to increase your chances of being selected for higher-paying surveys. Register with an email address, and check your email often so you can respond quickly to survey offers.
Ucraft is probably best known as a website builder, but amongst its browser-based web tools you'll find an excellent logo maker. It is also completely free! The designs are compatible with all major social accounts: Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn or even Twitch, and you can download it as a PNG or an SVG file (although the latter will cost you $12, boo!).
Developing a content calendar is a must for any social media marketing effort as this allows you to maximize your valuable content especially if you’re working on multiple channels. It also helps to put in perspective the general feel of your social media account that you can’t otherwise notice outright by just scrolling on your posts. It keeps your posts relevant by planning ahead content involving popular and trending news. This ensures that you keep your content varied and interesting enough for your audience to stop scrolling and engage with your post. Use your mobile device and look for a scheduling tool to maximize efficiency managing your content.

Similar to a YouTube vlogger, if you have a large following on Instagram then you could become an Instagram Influencer. You will be paid to promote products in your photos, from wearing certain clothes to action shots of you using particular merchandise. As your Instagram following grows, you may start out simply receiving freebies in return for a picture of you with the item in shot. However, for those with followings running into millions, you can expect large payments to display products in your pictures. Use sites like Hype Factory to help connect you with companies prepared to pay for your influence.
Drive for Uber or Lyft: If you're in a locale where you can find Uber or Lyft (or even one of the many competitors around the world such as China's Didi), you could easily make a respectable income. The hours are flexible and you can work as you see fit, making it perfect even if you currently have full-time employment but are looking to make some money on the side.

If lack of confidence is holding you back, then Free Code Camp is an excellent way to get your foot in the coding door. This organization provides free courses where you will build real-life apps and programs, giving you experience and plenty to add to your CV.
If you're serious about making money online, start a blog. Blogging is one of the easiest and most sustainable income sources. As long as the blog is setup the right way, in the right niche, with the right content targeted at the right audience, and the offer is complementary to the content, you could make a tremendous amount of passive income from a blog.
Tutor students. Many families prefer the flexibility of using an online tutor. Depending on your background, you could be simply helping a child with homework or providing college-level support. You need to have your own computer and high speed internet. Experience required differs among companies. Some require “strong experience,” while others require a specific educational background. However, most companies do require a college degree.
My 10-year-old son brought home a book from our park’s free library box. It was a biology textbook – teachers edition. He said it looked interesting and hey, it was free (having no idea you could sell it). I scanned it in my Amazon seller app and realized it was worth around $150. He was so excited. We listed it for sale for $130 and it sold! Going to tell him, he just made $130!

Instagram is a photo-sharing platform. The photo itself is key. You shouldn’t take a picture just to post one, and you certainly shouldn’t post just any picture. When you’ve determined your subject matter, be sure to keep in mind the following photography best practices. I know – it sounds like a lot of work. But I can tell you the brands that are absolutely slaying the Instagram game are taking the time to do this and seeing the results.
